Thirty three thousand five hundred and seventy two (33,572) .ng domain names were registered in Nigeria between January 2015 and November 2015, the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA) has reported.
According to the report, the 33,752 recorded in 2015 exceeds the 31,542 recorded in 2014 with nearly 7%.
In the 2014 report, NIRA recorded 18,870 registered domains, 11,907 renewed and 765 transferred.
A Guardian report revealed that NIRA also accredited four more domain registrars this year in addition to the 47 it had last year, bringing the total number of accredited domain registrars to 51.
Speaking to Guardian, NIRA’s President, Sunday Afolayan said: “We are hopeful that with full accreditation of more Registrars, this would provide more opportunities for creating awareness of the .ng brand.”
