The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has warned the Federal Government against any further increase in pump price of petrol.

The president of NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba gave the warning while addressing journalists after Central Working Committee (CMC) meeting in Lagos on Sunday.

Wabba further warned the federal government not to take out the high cost of the foreign exchange rate on poor Nigerians, who were tried of its excuses.

He said: “We are now justified when we opposed the initial increase in the pump price of petrol. Purchasing power of Nigerians has reduced drastically following the initial increase in petrol price per litre.

“We said it will worsen purchasing power of the workers. This is now coupled with non-payment of salary, non-payment of pension and gratuity.

“Our position still stand and every attempt to increase it will be resisted vehemently. We will mobilise our sister unions and affiliates.”

Maikanti Baru, the managing director Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) had earlier on assured Nigerians that it has no plans to increase fuel price.

Baru said this in reaction to media reports last week that NNPC had concluded plans to increase the pump price of PMS from N145 per litre to between N170 and N200 due to the high cost of foreign currencies.
