Northern Senator Alleges Ethnic Cleansing In Taraba

Shehu Sani, the Senator representing Kaduna Central in the Senate, has taken a swipe at the Federal Government on what he described as a ‘systematic act of ethnic cleansing’ of the people of Mambila in Taraba State.

His reaction follows a reported attack in Mambila plateau on Sunday, which left scores of people dead, while many houses were destroyed in Yelwa and Mesamari villages in the Sardauna Local Government Area of the state.

Recall that the Taraba State Police command had on Friday confirmed that five persons lost their lives following a communal unrest on Thursday evening between the cattle rearers and Mambilla ethnic group.

The federal lawmaker lamented the spate of killings going on in the country and particularly in Taraba state, saying Nigeria is becoming a nation in perpetual funeral service.

“The attacks and killings in Mambila stands unreservedly condemned. We are witnessing nothing but a systematic act of ethnic cleansing and vendetta.

“We are becoming a nation in perpetual funeral service. This mass murder must stop.

“This is not a good time to fight or love the Government and security agencies when people are being killed every day, but it’s the time to hold the Government and security agencies to account when people are being killed every day,” Mr Shehu said on Monday.
