Northerners Lament Buhari’s ‘Unprecedented Poor Leadership’

In the wake of President Muhammadu Buhari’s alleged insensitivity to the agony of victims of herdsmen and Boko Haram attacks, some northerners have expressed regret for voting the president into power.

This comes after the Presidency attempted to defend why President Buhari doesn’t necessarily have to personally visit the Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe, in order to show commiseration with parents of the 110 schoolgirls that were abducted by Boko Haram.

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, had said over the weekend that “no amount of condolence” visits by himself and President Buhari would compensate for the abducted schoolgirls or guarantee their return.

The President’s social media aide, Laureta Onochie, had also said recently that Buhari is an “adult” who decides where he should or should not visit.

Onochie made the statement after Nigerians criticised the president for attending Governor Abdullahi Ganduje daughter’s wedding in Kano State but refused to visit parents of the 110 schoolgirls whose daughters are still very much in captivity of the terrorists.

Although the presidency had announced on Monday that President Buhari would commence a condolence tour of some troubled states in the country, some northerners appear to be disappointed at the sort of leader Buhari had transformed into.

Below are some of their reactions on Facebook:

Mohammed Abdulfatai said, “Unbelievable how Nigeria ended up with this unprecedented poor leadership”

One Raji Bello wrote, “Buhari himself is a victim of a misguided herd mentality in northern Nigeria which grossly overestimated his abilities and foisted him on a country that he wasn’t prepared to govern.”

Abubakar Mohammed Aliyu said, “That Lauretta woman goofed big time, now that the president succumbs to netizens pressure for him to visit the crisis-ridden State, she will be hiding her face in shame. The moment you are occupying the highest office in the land there’s no more doing what you want to do because you are adult. In reality, her tweets about the issue is an insult to our sensibilities.”

“Leadership is not all about making speeches. It’s about being responsive to responsible and taking responsibility,” said Rabiu Muhammad.
