The Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has said electricity distribution companies (DisCos) no longer have “enough carrying capacity” to accommodate generated power.
Fashola said this at the 18th monthly power sector stakeholders meeting in Kano.
The minister also disclosed that the Federal Government has approved a N39 billion loan to DisCos to enable them distribute prepaid meters to electricity consumers.
“It is a serious problem that the distribution companies do not have enough carrying capacity to accommodate more of the generated electricity due to one reason or the other.”
Speaking on the approved loan, the minister said the move was “aimed at ending the series of complaints by consumers who applied for meter but were not supplied at the appropriate time.”
