There are currently no plans to scrap the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the Director-General, Brigadier General, Zuleman Kazaure, said on Monday.

Kazaure, who was reacting to speculations on plans by the Federal Government to put an end to the scheme, dismissed the reports, saying there was no truth in the rumour.

The NYSC boss, who was represented by the Director of Mobilisation, Chief Frank Ekpunobi, disclosed this at Issele-Uku, Delta, during a visit to the camp.

He further said suggestions about scrapping the scheme are as a result of “poverty of information’’.

He said that the NYSC period in the life of an individual was a period of stop gap and period to differentiate between fantasy and reality.

Kazaure said that the scheme was created with the sole aim of national integration, adding that since its creation, the NYSC had performed wonderfully well in the area of education, healthcare delivery and increased literacy.

The DG pointed out that there was no-where in Nigeria that people do not find corps members rendering services to their fatherland, while he advised corps members to stay in their places of primary assignment, avoid unnecessary travelling.
