Arsenal midfielder, Mesut Özil, has said he will sign a new contract with the North London club only if manager, Arsene Wenger stays at the Emirates Stadium beyond this season.

The 67-year-old Frenchman is in the final six months of his contract and Özil, who has 18 months left on his contract says he is waiting to know the manager’s fate before committing his future with the Gunners.

“I am very, very happy at Arsenal and have let the club know that I would be ready to sign a new contract. The fans want that I stay and now it is just down to the club,” he told German football magazine Kicker.

“The club knows that I am, above all, here because of Arsene Wenger – who signed me and whose trust I have,” added Ozil.

“The club also knows that I just want to be clear on what the manager will do.”

Wenger signed Ozil, 28, from Real Madrid in 2013, the German international is currently in talks with the Gunners about a new deal.

Wenger had in the past said Arsenal will do all it can to keep hold of both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez at the Emirates Stadium.
