Okorocha, Tinubu Set To Clash Over Ministerial Nomination

0 21

The covert crisis rocking the all progressives congress may take a new dimension following the seemingly ploy by former Lagos State governor, Mr. Bola Tinubu to appoint former chairman of Nigerian Breweries, Chief Festus Odumegwu as minister in the President Muhamadu Buhari cabinet.

A source who confided in our reporter said that already, “the former Lagos State governor, who is popularly called the National Leader of the APC had already taken Chief Odumegwu to the president”.

Chief Odumegwu had served in the PDP administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan as the Chairman of National Population Commission. He was fired by former President Jonathan following series of complaints against his rather ‘unbecoming behaviors and outburst” as the chairman of that all sensitive position.

Our investigations reveal that the moves had unsettled the Imo State governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha who see his supposed leadership of the party in the South East as being eroded.

The Imo State governor is the only governor from the South East geopolitical zone who is a member of the APC and supported the administration of President Buhari in no small way during the elections. The governor had during a congratulatory visit to then president-elect Buhari boasted that if not for the strategy the leadership of the APC in the South East zone applied during the election, which saw the voting power of the region diminished by over 50%, it would have been very difficult for the APC to win the presidential election.

Rochas, it was gathered, had believed that he should be allowed by the party to dictate the pace in the South East because his splinter APGA was part of the merger that formed the APC.

The current move by Tinubu, some analysts believe, is part of the larger plot to assert his leadership and control of the party at all the zones.
