The Ondo State House of Assembly Speaker, Jumoke Akindele, has reportedly tendered her resignation following a longstanding battle with members of the Assembly to retain her seat.

It would be recalled that about 13 lawmakers had in January impeached Akindele, alongside other principal officers, following allegations of fraud leveled against them.

The Speaker had resisted the impeachment, arguing that the lawmakers did not follow the right procedures in their quest to oust her.

But Akindele, and the said principal officers, however, stepped down from their positions following intense pressure from a faction of the divided House.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu officially received the resignation letters today (Monday).
