Ondo Government Bans Street `Owanbe`

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, on Monday, banned the blocking of roads or streets across Ondo state for any form of social or commercial activities in any part of the state.

This, according to Akeredolu, will discourage road-blocking celebrants and traders from causing holdups across the state during parties.

The governor has also asked Council chairman in the 18 local government areas of the state to ensure and enforce the order in their respective areas.

“Henceforth blocking of roads for any social engagement across the state regardless of your position or status is hereby outlawed,” the state government said in a statement.

Akeredolu`s Special Adviser, Hon Tobi Ogunleye, said no amount of pressure from any quarters would make the ministry to succumb to reversing the law

He also disclosed that it would become an offence for anybody to indiscriminately crossing the railings at the Oja Oba market.

He said “an indiscriminate crossing or jumping across the railings in the market would now be an offence and attract penalties.

“We are going to change the nonchalant attitude of our people towards the usage of the pedestrian bridge.

“The state Government has assigned a Magistrate court to try every traffic offences associated with road usage.

” We want to make the state free if volunteered hooligans. Non-usage of the pedestrian at Oja Oba market is now a serious offence“
