Only ‘Illiterates And Stupid People’ Will Ask Me To Account For Abacha’s Loot – OBJ
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has called out those demanding that he accounts for recovered Abacha loot, describing them as “illiterates and stupid people”
According to the former president, the Abacha loot recovered when he served as president from 1999-2007 were handed to the then Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and so all questions regards to that should be directed at them.
Obasanjo, who stated this in an interview, over the weekend, said “They said the money recovered from Abacha, I should account for it. What stupidity! The man who asked for it, the man who gave the judgement or who answered them are all stupid, with due respect.

“I don’t keep account, all Abacha loots were sent to Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and every bit of it was reported to Minister of Finance. My job was to write where we can get help to recover the money,” Obasanjo was quoted as saying.
The government of Switzerland has returned 723 million (142.43 billion) of the looted Nigeria’s funds by former dictator, Abacha in the last 10 years.
The Swiss government disclosed this in a memorandum of understanding titled “Letter of Intent on the restitution of illegally-acquired assets forfeited in Switzerland,” which the European country signed with the Nigerian government on Tuesday, March 8, 2016.
The funds returned excludes the $321million (about N63.24 billion) which the Swiss authorities are expected to send back to Nigeria in the coming days.
