Osinbajo Visits Katsina Flood Victims

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, on Tuesday, arrived Katsina State to commensurate with the government and people of the state over last weekend’s flood that claimed many lives and properties.

The Vice President was received at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua international airport by Governor Aminu Bello Masari, his Deputy, APC state chairman, Security chiefs and other members of the state executive council.

This was according to the Ibrahim Abdullah, Director General of the Katsina Media and Publicity, who said the VP arrived the airport at about 4:35pm after attending a function in Sokoto, where he commissioned the 1.5 million metric tonnes per annum (N126bn) BUA Kalambaina cement plant.

Osinbajo in company of Masari and other dignitaries immediately dashed to Jibia to condole with the people over the loss of lives and properties.

Atleast 44 people lost their lives and scores missing as flood wreaked havoc in 10 communities in Jibia Local Government Area of the state.

Some of the communities badly affected by the flood were Kwata, Dantudu, Sabuwar, Tukare, Tsohuwar Tukare and Ungwar Mai Kwari.

District Head of Jibia, Alhaji Rabe Rabi’u, who confirmed the development, described it as “highly devastating”, while calling on the federal and state governments to come to their aid.

“It is only government that can assist us because the situation is beyond our financial strengths,” he said.

No fewer than 500 homes were said to have been destroyed by the flood.
