OSUN: Voting Ends As 1.2 Million Voters Decide Aregbesola’s Successor Today

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said about 1,246,915 residents of Osun State have voted in the Osun State Governorship election that concluded in most polling units in the state today at 2 pm.

The processes leading to voting and the voting exercise was adjudged very peaceful by most election observers who also acknowledged very high turnout of voters.

About 1,682,495 registered to vote in the election but only 1,246, 915 collected their permanent voters cards.

Voting reportedly held peacefully in about 3,010 polling units, across 30 local government areas of state, and only few incidents were recorded.

INEC said 48 parties presented candidates in the election.They include : Iyiola Omisore, a former deputy governor of the state donning the flag of the Social Democratic Party (SDP); Gboyega Oyetola, a former chief of staff to the incumbent governor. contesting under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC); Ademola Adeleke, a senator seeking to become governor under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); a former Secretary to the State Government, Fatai Akinbade contesting under the Action Democratic Party (ADC) and another former Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti of the African Democratic Party (ADP).

The election is however expected to be a three-corner fight among candidates of the APC, PDP and the SDP.
