Over 1, 600 Ghost Workers Uncovered In Nasarawa

No fewer than 1,600 ghost workers have been discovered by the consultant handling the Bank Verification Number (BVN) exercise in Nasarawa state.

Executive director of Skye Bank Plc, the consulting firm that carried out the exercise across the thirteen local governments and eighteen development areas of the state, Mr. Idris Yakubu, disclosed this to journalists while presenting the final bio-metric report to Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura .

Mr. Yakubu revealed that after the exercise only 58,000 both workers and pensioners were discovered to be authentic persons on government pay roll.

He, however, affirmed that if the report is properly implemented, it would go a long way creating job opportunities for the teeming youths in the state as well as aid government to embark on meaningful projects that would enhance living condition of the citizens.

“During the exercise we were able to recover over N83m monthly and if government will implement this it will also run into N990m yearly” Yakubu said.

Receiving the report, governor Al-Makura, thanked the consultant for their commitment in ensuring that the exercise was a fruitful one.

“Despite the challenges faced because of its complex nature, you were able to come out with a comprehensive report. We are most excited especially as the submission came at the period where digitalisation through Bank Verification Number (BVN) and Treasury Single Account (TSA) would aid the state government in checks and balances that are required.

“With this report Nasarawa state government is indeed equipped with detailed report, which will checkmate wastages and corruption that bedeviled the system in the past. I assure you that the report will be immediately looked into and full implementation will soon commence,” he stated.
