WhatsApp on Thursday said more than 100 million voice calls are made on its app every day on the mobile service.

The Facebook-owned company service last year rolled out the calling feature, which uses the data connection in the phone.

“Today, more than 100 million voice calls are made every day on WhatsApp — that’s over 1,100 calls a second! We’re humbled that so many people have found this feature useful, and we’re committed to making it even better in the months to come,” the company said in a statement.

Talking about how WhatsApp voice-calling feature has made things easier for people, Jan Koum, Co-founder and CEO said in a Facebook post, “Since the early days of WhatsApp, we’ve worked to tear down the boundaries that stand between people staying. In touch with their friends and family. A little over a year ago, we made it possible to make calls using WhatsApp – for those times when it’s important to hear a voice on the other end of your phone. Today, we’re proud that people are making 100 million calls a day on WhatsApp!”

The voice-calling feature was first rolled out to WhatsApp users on Android followed by iOS, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone.

To refresh on WhatsApp’s voice-calling feature, the service is free, and not charged by WhatsApp. Much like other apps like Skype and Viber offering VoIP, WhatsApp voice calling uses a data connection to place a call, whether over Wi-Fi or mobile data. This data use however can be chargeable, based on your Internet plan.

The end-to-end encrypted messaging app recently added a host of new features to make its platform both convenient and fun. It rolled out a new feature for its Android beta testers that lets users quote a specific message and reply to it.

In January 2015, the platform introduced a Web client for in-browser chatting for iOS, Android, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone users; a desktop version for Mac and Windows launched last month.
