Over 5000 APC Members Defect To PDP In Enugu

No fewer than 5000 members of the All Progressive Congress, APC on Sunday defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Enugu.

The new PDP members announced their defection during the zonal rally of the PDP in Enugu West Senatorial District.

The defectors, including members of the Labour Party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, thronged the meeting venue in Awgu council area with their party logo, which they later dropped.

Governor of the state, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi speaking at the event, announced that Local Government elections will hold before the end of the year in Enugu State.

Ugwuanyi, who was endorsed for a second term ahead of the 2019 general election, by the Party in the zone, equally declared that board and parastatals would soon be inaugurated.

The endorsement, a unanimous decision of party members in the zone, was announced by the Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu.

The Senator equally presented two buses from the party members in the zone to the Governor, to kick-start his (Ugwuanyi) re-election campaign.

In his response, Governor Ugwuanyi who said he was excited by the endorsement, thanked them “for their message of hope”, and expressed his loyalty to the PDP, a party he said made him a member of the House of Reps and now a Governor.

“I want to let you know that we will hold local government election this year.

“I want to let you know that development centres will be inaugurated this year; various boards, parastatals and MDAs will soon be inaugurated.

“We will soon reorganize to enhance the process of government”, the governor declared.
