The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum has described as “regrettable” and ‘condemnable’, the action of the Political Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak who declared himself the National Chairman of the party.

On Wednesday, Gulak had stormed the National Secretariat of the PDP in Abuja with his supporters, where he declared himself the National Chairman.

According to him, the move was in accordance with a court order, which ruled that a member of the party from the North East should complete the tenure of a former National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, who resigned midway into his tenure.

In a communique issued by the Director General of the forum, Earl Osaro Onaiwu after their emergency meeting which held in Abuja, the PDP governors faulted Gulak’s move, adding that the appropriate organs of the party would meet soon to elect a national chairman of the party from the appropriate zone.

The communique read: “The invasion of the party headquarters on Wednesday by Ahmed Gulak, who reportedly assumed the Chairmanship of the PDP, is regrettable and condemnable.

“We take cognisance of the judgement by the court in Abuja which ordered the acting chairman to vacate office for any other person from the North-East zone of Nigeria.

“Our party constitution has enough provisions for that and the necessary process has been put in motion.”
