Plot To Smear Malami Thickens…To Brand Him As Opposed To Fight Against Corruption

There are indications that the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, may end up as the sacrificial lamb in the ongoing probe of ex-pension boss, Abdulrasheed Maina’s reinstatement.

This comes as presidential sources confirmed to The WHISTLER that efforts are being made by some powerful persons to use the Maina scandal to depose AGF Malami from office.

The revelation comes few days after the AGF, alongside other top government officials involved in the scandal, appeared before the House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the matter.

The WHISTLER recalls that the committee had handed Malami one week ultimatum to explain how the letter recommending Maina’s reinstatement emanated from his office.

One of the sources revealed to our correspondent that the well organised plot to remove Malami would see a series of sponsored campaigns by NGOs and civil society organizations agitating for the AGF’s immediate sack.

When The WHISTLER carried out further investigation, we found that one of the groups hired to press for Malami’s sack plans to release provocative statements meant to present AGF Malami as the bad egg within President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet.

The group, according to our source, will accuse the AGF of being responsible for the inability of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest the ex-pension boss.

Meanwhile, a group known as the League of Patriotic lawyers had last week called for Malami’s resignation, following his reaffirmation that he did meet with Maina in Dubai, UAE.
