Police Raid Ekweremadu’s Official Guest In Abuja

The official guest house of the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, in Abuja was on Friday raided by the police.

The development which was confirmed by the Special Adviser to the Deputy President of the Senate, Mr. Uche Anichukwu, said that neither Ekweremadu nor any of his senior aides was informed before the search.

Anichukwu explained that only the steward was present when the policemen who claimed to be from the Force Headquarters arrived at the guest house on 10 Ganges Street, Maitama.

It would be recalled that Ekweremadu on May 3 raised alarm of alleged plans by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to ‘kill his political career’ by planting incriminating materials in his property.

Ekweremadu who raised a point of order on the matter at plenary said an undisclosed source wrote to inform him of a planned raid of an apartment by the EFCC in his name this weekend.to raid him in either Abuja or Enugu.

The EFCC in response at that time said that he needed not to fear if he had nothing to hide.

“They said on 6th of May Saturday night or Sunday the EFCC alongside the local and international media under the guise the whistle-blowing policy of the federal government have obtained a warrant to search an apartment alleging to be one of your guest houses in Enugu capital state.

“The EFCC will be claiming to have a tip off from a whistle blower from your state alerting the EFCC of a huge amount of money of currency in the apartment said to be belonging to you Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president of the federal republic of Nigeria.

“The proceeds which is likely to be illegally obtained and acquired which constitute abuse of office and corruption.

“The things said to be discovered in the said apartment are a huge amount of money with huge currencies such as British Pounds sterling, US dollars, Indian rupies. Do cents allegedly to be yours such as 2015 campaign logistics. There will be a single photograph.”
