Police Warn IPOB Against Trump’s Solidarity Rally

The Nigerian police has sent a stern warning to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) not to disrupt peace in Port Harcourt, Rivers State as they plan to stage a rally in the state.

The pro-Biafran group announced earlier in the week that it will hold a solidarity rally on Friday, January 20, 2016, in support of the inauguration of Donald Trump.

The billionaire businessman is expected to be sworn in as the 45th president of the United States, replacing Barack Obama, the country’s first black-American president.

The group said in a statement that the “peaceful solidarity rally”, which will take place in Port Harcourt, is for “the United States president-elect Donald J Trump”.

The separatist group also sent an invitation to the police, the Department of State Securities and some other agencies.

Speaking on the development, the Abia State Commissioner of Police, Leye Oyebade said that group should defy the provision of the Nigerian constitution, adding that the Nigerian police will not sit back and watch the peace of Rivers people disrupted.

“There can never be a Republic within a Republic; the Police will con-tinue do their best to ensure that peace reigns.” Oyebade said.
