Proceed With Babachir, Oke’s Probe, Buhari Tells EFCC

President Muhammadu Buhari, Monday night, gave the go ahead of the investigation of sacked Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Presidential Spokesperson, Garba Shehu, said in a statement that President Buhari also approved of the investigation of the Director-General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayo Oke, by the anti-corruption agency.

The president “is fully conversant with the provisions of the constitution will not stop the investigation of anyone because he has no such power under our laws. This is a decision of the Supreme Court,” he said.

Shehu’s reaction comes after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) called for President Buhari’s impeachment.

The PDP had slammed the president for merely sacking SGF Babachir and the DG NIA, Oke.

“Based on his wish and desire for a strict observance of the law, the President expects the EFCC, ICPC and such agencies to proceed with ongoing investigations.

“When and where they have reasonable grounds to charge former or serving officers to court under our laws, they do not require the permission of the President to do so,” added the presidential spokesperson.
