Hundreds of youths on Wednesday protested to the offices of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Enugu state over the on-going probe of former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan.

The angry protesters submitted a petition to the South-East zonal head of the commission, Mr. Johnson Babalola.

Coordinator of the youths under the aegis of Concerned Igbo Youths, Comrade Victor Ezenagu, said that the probe, which had culminated to the freezing of her (Mrs. Jonathan) account, is a calculated plot to humiliate ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

In late October, women numbering over 100 stormed the Federal High Court in Lagos, chanting solidarity songs against the freezing order placed on the bank accounts of Dame Jonathan.

The EFCC had on September 22 ordered the freezing of some bank accounts belonging to Mrs. Jonathan.

The Commission had said the action was due to the ongoing investigation into the alleged money laundering charge preferred against her.

Mrs. Jonathan had in turn instituted a suit against the EFCC asking for a court order directing the unfreezing of her accounts.

She is also claiming $200 million against the commission as damages for allegedly infringing on her fundamental rights.
