Reactions Trail Singer, Brymo Nude Video
Nigerian singer, Olawale Ashima, popularly known as Brymo, appears nearly naked in his new music video titled, “Heya”.
The afro-soul song is the lead single from his sixth album, “Oṣó”, a Yoruba word for a wizard.
The video started with the singer emerging from the water and walking towards a piano, wearing nothing but a loincloth covering his groin area.
According to an email Brymo sent to Pulse, the singer defended his appearance in the controversial music video.
He said, “I decided to appear how my forbears dressed before the arrival of civilization to Nubian continent.
“We have all seen the costume in many movies, “Heya” was my own representation of that age; A bushman in the city, that’s my image of most black Africans of today. Although we reside in cities, we are still villagers in our thoughts and actions.”
Brymo started his music career in 1999, and signed a record deal with Chocolate City in 2010 but which lasted until 2013 when he engaged his erstwhile label in a lawsuit over contract terms.
The video sent Nigeria twitter community into overdrive. While many praised his artistry, others were left perplexed.
Below are some reactions from Nigerians.
