Dangote Cement Company, has prosecuted 140 of its truck drivers over alleged haulage of products not belonging to the company and reckless driving on the highway.

Head of the Patrol and Monitoring Unit of the Cement Company, Abdullahi Magaji, disclosed this information to journalists in Obajana, Kogi State, on Monday, adding that 70 of the 140 suspected drivers have already been charged to court.

Magaji explained that the arrested drivers had formed the habit of hauling other company’s products.

According to him, the suspected drivers, having offloaded the company’s cement product to the prospective dealer, and instead of returning to the factory empty, hauled other products for their personal gains.

He revealed that all the company drivers are handsomely paid, stating that he sees no reason whatsoever for any driver to embark on any outside job with the company’s truck or property.

Recall that the President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, had in July this year inaugurated a national patrol and monitoring team to check theft of the company’s properties, illegal haulages, picking of passengers and possible diversion of company products.

Dangote was reportedly worried about the numerous cases of accidents which has led to payment of compensations in millions of Naira.
