Rivers Assembly Swears In 11 Lawmakers

The Rivers State House of Assembly, on Thursday, swore in eleven lawmakers into the 8th Assembly.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tamuno Adams, while congratulating the lawmakers, reminded them that their election was a call to serve.

According to him, the business of lawmaking must be taken serious, and all hands must be on deck in order to move the state forward.

However, member-elect, Port Harcourt Local Government, constituency 1, on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC, Victoria Nyeche, was not sworn in alongside the 11 others.

The Speaker explained that the assembly had received a petition from the Civil Liberties Organisation against the member-elect for allegedly using the Assembly’s Letter Headed Paper before being sworn in.

Hon. Adams, therefore, read out a court injunction restraining the House from administering the oath of office on Nyeche.

Nyeche, however, said she would seek redress in court.
