Rivers Cleanliness Not Negotiable – Obuah

Bro. Felix Obuah, Sole Administrator, Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA), says the task of keeping Port Harcourt, the state capital and its environs clean is not negotiable and must be achieved.

This was contained in a statement signed by Jerry Needam, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the RIWAMA boss and made available to THE WHISTLER on Thursday.

Speaking shortly after monitoring major roads and streets in Port Harcourt early Thursday, Obuah regretted that some mischievous politicians and other residents have made it a duty to defecate in some areas of the city after Service Providers have finished their daily evacuation of refuse.

He stated that some mischievous persons had turned the New Airport Road (Aluu), by Obiri Ikwerre roundabout to an illegal refuse dump, adding that the act is mostly perpetrated at midnight.

Obuah further called on event planners, nightclubs and roadside business vendors who contribute to defacing the streets and roads of the city, to join hands with the agency to keep Port Harcourt and its environs clean.

“Consequently, the RIWAMA Sole Administrator has directed security agents to arrest anyone found dumping refuse at that spot or any other area not designated for refuse dump, noting that such actions are intended to deface the city and undermine the efforts of the Agency, that is committed to keeping the State clean and healthy,” the statement reads.

The RIWAMA boss equally directed all Service Providers to up their game, and ensure that all streets and roads in Port Harcourt and its environs are kept clean 24 hours of the day.

Bro. Obuah said opposition politicians who do not mean well for the growth of the State and are bent on tarnishing the image of the good administration of Governor Wike continuously engage in acts of sabotaging the efforts of the Agency.

Assuring that the Agency will not relent in its avowed commitment, as it is working round the clock to keep Port Harcourt and its environs clean and healthy, the RIWAWA boss announced the setting up of a Special Task Force to arrest and prosecute anyone found dumping refuse at unauthorized places and outside the refuse disposal hours of 6 p.m. to 12 midnight.
