Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the December 10 legislative rerun, George Sekibo, has been declared by INEC as winner of the Rivers East senatorial district election.

Sekibo made the comeback, Monday, after INEC collated results from the eight local government areas (LGAs) that constitute Rivers East.

Sekibo thrashed candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Andrew Uchendu, by polling 93,098 votes against Uchendu who polled 34,193 votes.

Prior to INEC’s declaration of the PDP candidate, Governor Nyesom Wike, on getting the scoop of a plot to manipulate the result in favour of Uchendu, reportedly mobilised members of the party to the collation centre to demand declaration of the result.
