Rivers PDP Lauds Wike’s Investment In Science Education

Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has commended Governor Nyesom Wike for his “interest and huge investment” in science education in the state.
The party in a statement by its chairman, Felix Obuah, described the governor’s gesture as a step in the right direction.

“No leader in the history of the State has shown such degree of remarkable interest in seeing the State take off technologically by re-awakening the interest of our school children in Science, Technology and Mathematics as Gov Wike,” Obuah was quoted as saying by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jerry Needam.

The State PDP chairman further hailed the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) for holding its 60th Anniversary Conference in Port Harcourt, and naming Governor Wike its patron.

Obuah said the sponsorship of 400 Science Teachers for this year’s STAN Conference geared will spur science teachers in public schools across the state to upgrade their knowledge on current trends in science and technology so as to be able to teach the students adequately.

He explained that the move will further boost the selected schools with world class science laboratories, which according to him is in line with Wike’s plan to give science and technology priority attention in schools across the state.

Bro Obuah enjoined all science and mathematics teachers and the chosen schools in the state to “reciprocate the governor’s efforts by showing commitment in their duties for the benefit and future of our children.

“Similar and regular conferences should be organized for science, technology and mathematics teachers across the country to be able to catch up with the speedy moving world of this age of science and technology,” he added.
