Roma Crush Chelsea As PSG, Bayern Qualify For Last 16

Italian side As Roma edged closer to the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League after beating Chelsea 3-0 at the Stadio Olympico in Rome on Tuesday night.

Stephan El Shaarawy scored twice, while Diego Speroti was also on target as the Italians ensured Chelsea became the first English team to lose a Champions League game this season.

The Blues trailed within 39 seconds when Edin Dzeko flicked Aleksandar Kolarov’s cross down to El Shaarawy, who smashed home from 25 yards.

The Italy international made it 2-0 when ex-Roma defender Antonio Rudiger failed to deal with Radja Nainggolan’s long ball forward.

Chelsea had more shots – 14 to 13 – but were three behind when Diego Perotti cracked home from 20 yards after Blues defenders failed to close him down.

Antonio Conte’s side however had only one positive to take home from the night after Atletico Madrid failed to beat Qarabag. Diego Simeone’s men were held to a 1-1 draw at home.

Roma now lead the group by a point, with second-placed Chelsea ahead of Atletico with four points. The Blues could still go through if they beat Qarabag in their next Champions League game in November..

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain strolled into the last 16 of the competition as Layvin Kurzawa scored a hat-trick in a 5-0 rout of Anderlecht, with Bayern Munich joining them in the knockout phase.

Marco Verratti and Neymar struck at the Parc des Princes before Kurzawa netted an unlikely treble, while Bayern also advanced from Group B after a 2-1 win at Celtic.

Javi Martinez’s brave header clinched qualification for the Germans after Callum McGregor had cancelled out Kingsley Coman’s first-half opener in Glasgow.
