Samsung S7 and S7 Edge Unveiled

Samsung on Sunday, unveiled its Galaxy S7 and S7 edge at its Galaxy Unpacked event, in Barcelona Spain.

With an improvement on its S6 line, the new Galaxy Phones have been dubbed the best phones ever to come out from the Korean giant’s factory.

A mobile expert said the S7 and S7 edge “were beautifully designed and expertly constructed.”

Though similar to the S6, the S7 is more comfortable to hold, easier to pick up off, has a flatter fingerprint scanner, and has a less pronounced camera hump.

The Samsung phones has a thicker battery, made with water resistant and comes with a microSD card slot, features missing from the S6 line.

The S7 retains the 5.1-inch and a quad HD Super AMOLED display, similar to the S6. However, S7 edge have been given a larger, 5.5-inch display, also with a quad HD Super AMOLED and curved on both sides, and been refined even further.

Despite the larger display, like that of the iPhone 6S, the S7 Edge user friendly and can slip into the pocket with ease. One user said “In the brief time I spent with it, I was taken away by how nice it was to hold in my hand. It’s a stunning piece of technology.”

According to TechCrunch, the Suwon based company included a new 12MP image sensor and lens into the S7 line, rather than the 16MP found in the S6, however the company said its larger pixels let in 95 percent more light than before, which is promising for low light photography.

The camera’s lens is a brighter f/1.7 aperture, the sensor’s shape has also changed from a wide-format 16:9 to a more traditional 4:3 ratio.

Samsung says the new camera can focus up to three times faster thanks to its dual-pixel system that allows every single one of the 12 million pixels to act as focus pixels, similar to the system Canon uses in some of its DSLR cameras.

The Water resistant, which allows up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes at a time, includes sealed ports, so there are no fussy port covers over the USB ports or headphone jacks.

Similar to the LG G-series, the new Galaxy phones comes with an ‘always-on display’ feature that allows the device display the time and recent notifications in a low-power mode, when not in use.

The S7 will come in black or gold, while the S7 Edge will come in black, gold, or silver options.

Pre-order for both devices begin on Tuesday, February 23rd, and will be available on major carriers in the US starting on March 11th.

Samsung also promises a free Gear VR for purchase of either S7 running February 23rd through March 18th.
