When President Muhammadu Buhari visited Benue on Monday, he got less than a cheerful welcome as the few youths that came to welcome him bore banners that expressed their pain and grief.
Some of the banners which our correspondent saw welcoming the president read, “End Benue Genocide now, Proscribe Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Buhari act now or resign”.
Another read: “Buhari every youth is a Yusuf.” (referring to the President’s son)
The President paid a one-day state visit to the North-central state to commiserate with the government and people of the state over the New Year’s Day attack.
Recall that on January 1, 2018, suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked two communities in Benue, killing over 73 people, including women and children.
The visit was part of the President’s ‘condolence tour’ of states affected by recent terrorist attacks, criminal activities and communal clashes in 2018.
