Segun Oni Explains Why He Rejected Fayose’s N52m SUV

Ekiti State governorship aspirant, Segun Oni, who recently turned down a N52 million worth Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) from Governor Ayo Fayose, has explained the reason behind his action.

Oni, who is former governor and Deputy Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), explained that the timing of Fayose’s car gift was wrong and rather belated.

The APC chieftain said he couldn’t have accepted Fayose’s gift at a time the governor owes workers in the state several months of salaries.

“Although Fayose meant well with the gift, but the question is: why does he have to wait till this time before giving out the cars?,” he queried.

“The former governors are entitled to it. It is their right and privilege; not only the car but even residential houses, even at the Federal Capital. Why then does he have to wait till when he has less than a year to leave the office before recognising them?

“The timing to giving out a jeep of about N52 million at the time state local government workers and pensioners are being owed for several months is what we quarrel with, and not the gift,” Oni said in a statement by Dr. Ife Arowosoge, the Director-General of his Campaign Organisation.

Meanwhile, Governor Fayose was reported to have left out his immediate predecessor and current Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, when distributing the SUVs to past governors in the state.
