The building is said to be owned by a chieftain of the APC and who is the Senator representing Kaduna North, Hunkuyi Suleiman.

Senator Shehu Sani, who represents Kaduna Central, had during a plenary of the Senate on Tuesday, raised a point of order calling on the upper legislative chamber to intervene in the matter.

Sani described El-Rufai as “an affliction on the people of Kaduna State” for allegedly demolishing the building because he was suspended from Kaduna APC by the faction of the party.

Responding, the Senate which was presided over by Deputy Senate President, Ike Ikweremadu, ordered Governor El-Rufai to either provide a replacement for the demolished building or compensate Senator Suleiman.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State government, in a statement on Tuesday, claimed that the building was demolished because it was harboring thugs.

“This morning a building on 11B Sambo close was removed for flagrant violations of land use and non-payment of ground rent since 2010. This illegal violation of use had begun to distress neighbours who were being forced to endure an influx of thugs and blockage of the road,” said the Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Agency (KAPSUDA).
