The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu will appear before the Senate on Wednesday to be screened, the Red Chamber announced Tuesday.

The screening is part of procedure in the rum up to Magu’s confirmation as the substantive chairman of the EFCC.

Magu’s nomination was rejected by the Senate in December last year following a security report made available to the Upper Chamber.

“Based on security reports available to the Senate, the Senate cannot proceed to confirm the nomination of Ibrahim Magu Mustapha as the Executive Chairman of the EFCC.

“Accordingly, the Senate hereby rejects the said nomination and has returned the said nomination back to the President for further action,” spokesman of the Senate, Senator (Dr.) Abdullahi Sabi had said

Another report on Magu further stated that the acting EFCC chairman had failed an integrity test by the Department of State Security (DSS). He was said to be living in a N40 million rented apartment and had maintained high profile life style.

Magu was also accused of flying first-class against President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive.

“Magu is currently occupying a residence rented for 40m at N20million naira per annum. This accommodation was not paid from commission’s finances but by one Umar Mohammed (Air Commodore/Rtd), a questionable businessman and ally of subject who has subsequently been arrested by this service,” the report noted.

The report raised concerns from all corners, with many calling for his removal.

Despite the numerous allegations against Magu, President Muhammadu Buhari again forwarded his name to the Senate for screening and confirmation.
