This makes it a record fifth time the Argentine international has won the award, equaling that of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.

Only Harry Kane and Steven Gerrard, with six each, have won more.

Aguero claimed the award ahead of team mate, Kevin De Bruyne, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson and Tottenham’s duo of Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe was named the Manager of the Month award for January, ending Pep Guardiola’s incredible run.

Howe steered Bournemouth to an unbeaten run in January, defeating Arsenal and Chelsea, while drawing against Brighton and West Ham.

Bournemouth, who host Newcastle United on Saturday, are tenth in the table after their seven-game unbeaten run in the league ended when they lost 4-1 away to Huddersfield last weekend.
