Shi’ites in South West Storm Ibadan, Demand Release Of Elzakzaky

Hundreds of members of Islamic Movement In Nigeria under the banner of Shiite Movement in South West Nigeria yesterday in Ibadan demanded the unconditional release of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim Elzakzaky who is currently under investigation.

The leader of the movement at a press conference in Ibadan, Mallam Muftau Zakariyah, also demanded compensation for all members who were allegedly massacred.

“We demand formal apology from the Nigerian Army. We demand payment for all movement property that has been destroyed,” he said.

Answering questions, Zakariyah said: “We are innocent of all the allegations by the military. COAS is our servant; he has no right to order the killing of our followers.”

Zakariyah, whose speech was punctuated by “Allahu Akbar,” said that his followers numbering millions all over the country were not ready for any violence.

He queried why the Nigerian Army has “become the prosecutor, the jury and the executioner,” adding that the composition of the panel set up was faulty.

Zakariyah was of the view that the likes of Chief Femi Falana, Professor Ishaq Akintola of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) and other human rights organizations should have been included for the panel to attract any credibility.
