Former Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia has said he is amazed with the progress made by Nigeria youngster Alex Iwobi at Arsenal.

Siasia, who gave the 20-year-old a call up for his first international experience with Nigeria, hailed the Arsenal winger, describing him as one of the best young players in the world.

Iwobi, who has been playing with Arsenal’s second team has since this season broken into Arsene Wenger’s first team and now a regular for Nigeria.

“When I first saw him, he had good touches but being his first time in Nigeria after a long while, you could not see the best of him,” Siasia was quoted as saying by African Football.

“We needed him to understand the kind of system in Nigeria and now see what he has turned out to be one of the best young players in the world.

“I am amazed with the rapid growth of Alex,” he continue.

“It has been a great transition for him. He is now a star at Arsenal playing with a lot of confidence. Two years ago, nobody knew who he was as he was playing in the Arsenal second team.”

Arsenal chose not to release Iwobi for the Rio Olympic Games, but he has since become a full international with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The Arsenal star represented England at Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18 level before then switching to Nigeria and Siasia has given the credit to his father who has been his agent.

“Kudos must go to his dad, who did everything for Alex to be where he is today.

“If it weren’t for his father, Alex would not have played for Nigeria to start with.”

Iwobi has already made 14 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions this season, but he is yet to score for the Gunners.
