Siri Can Now Read WhatsApp Messages Aloud

WhatsApp now allows iPhone voice assistant, Siri, to read unread messages, on the app, out loud.

The latest update version 2.17.2 allow users to read and reply messages without touching their phone.

All you have to do is say “Hey Siri, read my last WhatsApp message” and it will read out the contact name – or phone number if you haven’t got the contact saved – and then your last message.

However, this will only work if the user has any unread messages. For example the user may ask Siri to read the last message on WhatsApp and the voice assistant will read the last unread message and then prompt the user to compose and send a reply. But once Siri reads a message, it won’t be able to read the same message for the second time.

To activate the new feature you’ll need to be running Apple’s iOS 10.3 software as well as having updated the WhatsApp app to its latest version. You’ll also need to give Siri permission to use WhatsApp too. If you’re running WhatsApp version 2.17.20 you’ll be able to use the feature.

The Facebook-owned company has also made visual tweaks to the Calls tab, Contact Info and Group Info screens, while adding the ability to add multiple statuses.
