Snapchat Rolls Out Video Recording Sunglasses, Changes Company Name

Snapchat has rolled out video-recording glasses called Spectacles.

The glasses, “Spectacles” can record ten seconds of video at a time then upload it to Snapchat.

The sunglasses connect directly to Snapchat via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and transfer videos directly to the app.

Snapchat says Spectacles shoots 115-degree video in a new circular format, , which can be viewed back in any orientation.

Spectacles will be available in three colors and will go on sale later in the year for $130 and will come supplied with a carry case which doubles as a charger. You’ll need to pop the glasses in the case each night as the built-in battery lasts around a day.

The Social media app has also changed its name to Snap Inc.

The name change is because of the new product. Until the new glasses, Snapchat’s only product was the ubiquitous app for smartphones. The app will still be called Snapchat, it’s just the company name that’s changed.
