Super Eagles Rise In Latest FIFA Ranking

The Super Eagles of Nigeria moved up six places to 61st in the latest Fifa rankings released on Thursday, by the world football governing body.

The three-time African Champions were 67th in May grading, however back-to-back victories in their international friendlies against Mali and Luxembourg last month ensured they improved to 559 from the 540 for last month.

Nigeria are 12th in Africa, behind Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, Cape Verde, Congo DR, Guinea, Cameroon and Congo.

Meanwhile, on the global scene, Argentina remained the number one footballing nation in the world followed by Belgium, Colombia, Germany and Chile who occupy second, third, fourth and fifth places respectively.

Completing the top 10 are Spain in sixth, Brazil in seventh, Portugal in eighth, Uruguay in ninth and Austria in 10th

The most surprising ranking of the day was Northern Ireland, who moved up to 25th in the world – their highest ever ranking.

On the contrary, England dropped out of the top 10 despite wins over Turkey and Australia in May.
