President Muhammadu Buhari reportedly arrived at Benue State to a cold reception during his visit to the state on Monday.
The development which barely comes as a surprise came after President Buhari failed to visit Benue several weeks after over 70 persons were left dead while many injured and displaced following some deadly attacks by Fulani herdsmen in Guma and Logo local government areas of the state.
The people of Benue are said to be angry at how “passive” the president handled the killings by the herdsmen.
It was learnt that during Buhari’s visit, a former governor and serving Senator in the state, George Akume, related how disappointed the people of the state felt about Buhari’s reaction to the killings in the state.
Akume was quoted as telling Buhari during his visit that: “Your Excellency, you could recall that Senator David Mark was Senate President while Gabriel Suswam was the chief security officer of the state, yet the Tiv people voted for you in 2015.
“We have no federal project in Benue State, Ortom does not make law, Benue People made the law, JS Tarka fought for the unity of our country Nigeria, Mr President the Tiv people are not happy about your reaction towards the killing of Tiv farmers by Fulani herdsman,” said the Senator.
