UEFA Best Player 2015/16: Messi Snubbed As Ronaldo, Bale And Griezmann Make Final Three

European football governing body, UEFA has released the final three nominees for the 2015/16 UEFA Best Player in Europe Award.

After winning the award last year, current world player of the year, Lionel Messi was overlooked as Real Madrid pair of Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo, and Atlético Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann, were instead shortlisted ahead of him.

Journalists from UEFA’s 55 member associations were asked for their own five choices as the best player in the continent last season. And now that long list of 10 has been narrowed down to three.

Cristiano Ronaldo, helped country Portugal win Euro 2016 after a successful campaign with club side Real Madrid, where he won the UEFA Champions League for the third time in his career.

Bale, enjoyed yet another memorable year for club and country. He scored in a penalty shootout as Real beat city rivals Atletico to win the Champions League.

The 27-year-old also netted three times to help Wales reach the last four of Euro 2016 in France.

Antoine Griezmann scored seven goals in the UEFA Champions League as Atlético got to a second final in three years. The striker was then Player of the Tournament and won the adidas Golden Boot at UEFA EURO 2016, scoring six goals to cap a memorable season for club and country.

The winner will be announced during the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League group stage draw in Monaco on Thursday 25 August.
