Following intense pressure from Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State and subtle blackmail from supporters of President Muhamadu Buhari, the lawmaker representing Afikpo South/North of Ebonyi State, Rep Igariwe Enwo has withdrawn the suit challenging  President Muhammadu Buhari for releasing funds to states and local governments without consulting the National Assembly.

Igariwe had filed the suit on July 15 at an Abuja High Court, challenging President Buhari’s powers to release such bailout money without recourse or appropriation of the National Assembly.

Chatting with journalists today, Igariwe said”I had to discontinue the matter as the House has resumed and the Federal Government has said it was going to be a loan.
“I will submit a motion in regard to this development and make my submissions”.

the Buhari administration has become notorious for taking executive decision without recourse to the legislature. Only a forth night ago, the government announce that it had secured a $2.1b loan from the World Bank.
The opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has subsequently challenged President Buhari to come clean on the issue of the $2.1b loan.

PDP’s spokesman, Olisa Metuh had asked rhetorically,

“The citizens are still wait for clarifications on the important issue of the $2.1 billion loan the Presidency is taking from the World Bank for purposes yet unknown to the public and relevant arms of government. Don’t we deserve explanations on what the loan is for, what the terms are and who decides on how the money will be spent?”
