US Open 2017: Sharapova Defeats Timea Babos To Reach Third Round
Maria Sharapova continued her come back from a doping ban after the former world number 1 defeated Hungary’s Timea Babos with a 6-7 (4/7), 6-4, 6-1 win, to reach the third round of the US Open on Wednesday.
The 2006 champion fired 12 aces with 39 winners and 36 unforced errors.

The 30-year-old Russian made an emotional return to Grand Slam tennis on Monday when she knocked out second seed Simona Halep in the first round.
She will now face either Sofia Kenin or Sachia Vickery, both of the United States, for a place in the last 16.
“It was a scrappy match but every time I step on the court here it’s a special day,” said the five-time major winner.
“But I felt fresh and I wanted to be the fittest player out there,” she added.

Meanwhile, Ninth seed Venus Williams moved into the third round of the US Open by overcoming France’s Oceane Dodin 7-5 6-4. The 37-year-old hit 33 winners in the first match of day three’s night session at Flushing Meadows.
