What Akpabio Said When PDP Hosted Defectors In Abuja (Video)

On August 1, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held a dinner in honour of lawmakers who had defected from the All Progressives Congress at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

At the dinner, there was no inkling that a few days later, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Senate Minority Leader, will be jumping ship from the PDP to the APC.

Senator Akpabio at the dinner described those returning to the PDP as prodigals and cautioned the party not treat them preferentially and then urged the national leadership of the party to organize a similar dinner for those of them that had kept faith with the party.

However, by August 3, rumours were rift that Akpabio, a former governor of oil-rich Akwa Ibom state was defecting to the ruling APC.

True to the rumour mill, that same August 3, he was off to the U.K. where he met with President Muhammadu Buhari and later met with Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National Leader of the APC in Abuja the next day being August 4, a day which he resigned as Minority Leader.

And on August 8 being a Wednesday, he formally announced his defection to the APC at a rally in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.
