The All Progressives Congress, APC, has said that it will oppose the choice of Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State as deputy chairman of the National Governors’ Forum (NGF).

It was gathered that the NGF members who are scheduled to meet on Wednesday, ahead of the National Economic Forum meeting on Thursday, are likely to select a deputy chairman.

Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, was unanimously chosen as the chairman following the expiration of the tenure of ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.

Source close to an APC governor in one of the North Central States said the choice of Fayose by the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, was ill considered and unacceptable to the party.  The source stated that the APC would not accept the controversial governor for such a sensitive position, asking the PDP to find a suitable replacement.

“I wonder why the PDP thinks the Ekiti State governor should be the choice for the deputy chairman of the forum when they could not accept him as the chairman of their PDP Governors’ Forum,

“The choice is unacceptable to us and we would oppose it when we meet on Wednesday,”

They recalled fayose’s stiff opposition to Buhari especially during the presidential campaigns and immediately after the victory of the APC Lamenting how he was at the center of the anti-Buhari campaign during the process.

In his response, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Alhaji Abdullahi Jalo said, if there was any position meant to be occupied by a PDP governor, the APC has no right to dictate which of the PDP’s governors should occupy it.

Mr Jalo said,

The PDP as a political party has the right to nominate and support any of its governors to occupy any position given to the party.

The issue of some governors opposing a governor chosen by our governors to represent those does not even arise. It is entirely our business as a party to choose anyone of our members we feel can best represent our interest anywhere at any time.”

He added.
