The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), on Thursday, maintained that “universities will remain shut until issues of members’ salaries and revitalisation are settled.”
The union had on Wednesday continued its discussions/negotiations with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment and other federal government negotiators in Abuja.
But THE WHISTLER gathered that the meeting ended in deadlock with both parties rescheduling another meeting for next week.

Among other demands, the union had proposed its own University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) payment platform as a better alternative for the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) being used by Government.
It stressed that the IPPIS platform had short-changed lecturers.
ASUU also expressed willingness to resume work if the federal government did its part.
Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Education had frowned on ASUU for determining how government should pay them.
Also, students under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), had called on both parties to resolve their issues so that the March 23 strike could be called off.
