Sultan Kicks Against Restructuring, Calls For Devolution Of ‘Dams’ For Farming

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III has said rather than restructure the country, Federal Government should devolve ‘dams’ to State Governments for “massive farming”.

Abubakar, at the Niger State Investment Submit in Minna on Monday, urged Nigerians to focus more on demanding that Federal Government relinquishes dams like Shiroro and Goronyo in Niger and Sokoto to state governments for all-year farming.

The Sultan said this while noting that Nigeria has various mineral resources that can be put to use to better livelihood in the country.

“Rather than the clamour for restructuring the country, emphasis should be on Federal Government releasing dams across the country to state governments for massive participation of Nigerians in all-year farming seasons,” said the Sultan.

“We have the ability and technical knowledge to feed the continent with what we can produce, with the required political commitment, through the provision of modern farming implements for our teaming farmers,” he said.
