Super Eagles Thrash Cameroun, Move Closer To 2018 World Cup

The Super Eagles of Nigeria where in scintillating form as they thrashed Central Africa rivals Cameroun 4-0 on Friday at the Nest of Champions in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Goals by Odion Ighalo, Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and Kelechi Iheanacho gave Gernot Rohr’s men the vital victory which has taken them one step closer to their sixth appearance at the FIFA World Cup.

The Eagles are now unbeaten in 33 World Cup qualifier games.

Ighalo, who plays in the Chinese Super League opened the scoring in the 29th minute after latching onto a pass from skipper Mikel Obi, muscling his way through to finish off beautifully.

Mikel Obi scored Nigeria’s second just before half time, scooping home a Victor Moses’ cross.

The Super Eagles were three goals up 10-minutes into the second half after Moses placed a ball to the bottom left corner of the visitor’s post.

Simon Moses raced to the ball and cuts back. The Chelsea wingback curls the ball past Ondoa.

The Eagles score the fourth from Kelechi Iheanacho’s close header to add the icing on the cake.

The Super Eagles will travel to Cameroun on Sunday to take on the Indomitable Lions in another crunch World Cup Qualifying game.

If Nigeria wins the game, they will book their place at the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup.
