Supreme Court Verdict: David Lyon Submits To Fate, Thanks Bayelsans

Former Bayelsa governor-elect, David Lyon, on Thursday, said he had accepted his recent ousting by the Supreme Court in good faith.

The apex court had nullified Lyon’s victory in the November 16, 2019 governorship election for presenting a running mate with forged certificates.

Lyon and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), had approached the Supreme Court for a review of the judgement, but the apex court dismissed their application for lacking in merit.

In a statement he personally signed on Thursday, Lyon said the court’s decision had further dashed the hopes of Bayelsans “as it upturns the democratic mandate of the Bayelsa electorate”.

He urged his supporters to accept the verdict and remain calm.

Lyon urged them to shun all forms of violence or any conduct that may threaten the peace and development of the state.

“I hereby unequivocally state my decision to accept the Supreme Court verdict however distressing as it is, it is the decision of the Supreme Court, and we are all bound to accept the outcome as law-abiding citizens of this great country,” he said.

Lyon further thanked the leadership of the APC at the state and national levels for their support, adding that he would continue to join forces with well-meaning individuals, institutions, and organisations to bring development to Bayelsa.
